An O-ring kit is a labelled case containing every common size in a given standard. Open the case, find the size, fit the ring — no waiting, no part-number hunting.
Common uses
- 1General automotive service — AC, fuel, oil and coolant repairs
- 2Hydraulic fitting overhauls in workshops and mobile service vans
- 3Plumbing, irrigation and pneumatic system maintenance
- 4Stocking apprentice and mobile-mechanic tool boxes
Advantages
- Eliminates downtime waiting for a single 1 AED O-ring
- Sizes are labelled and organised — fast to identify the right one
- Available in NBR (general), FKM (heat/fuel) or EPDM (brake fluid/water)
- Refillable cases — restock only the sizes you actually use
Disadvantages
- A single kit only covers one compound — you may need two or three
- Rubber slowly ages on the shelf; rotate old stock and replace yellowing rings
- Doesn't cover oversized, metric-only or very small AS568 sizes
- Tempting to use the 'closest' size — wrong size always leaks eventually
The bottom line
Keep at least one NBR kit and one FKM kit per service bay. Always fit the exact size, not the nearest — and replace any ring that looks flattened, glazed or cracked.
